Being an employee at Zara taught me a range of skills regarding retail. I learnt to be proficient with using POS systems, working on visual merchandising, and even being able to communicate with French customers who did not feel comfortable speaking English. I believe going above and beyond in order to satisfy the customer is extremely important. Amongst these abilities, I also stayed on top of fashion trends which allowed me to make better recommendations to the customers even enabling me to build my own clientele.
Working in one of the busiest cafe stores across London allowed me to develop my barista skills including retaining an increased knowledge of hygiene standards and refining the art of multitasking while also maintaining the quality of service. I also managed to stay composed through a number of stressful situations where there were many tasks to complete with not that much staff. With every day being as busy as the last, I served a numerous amount of customers, allowing me to enhance my customer interaction with regular customers. Having to memorise the menu quickly, I was able to carry out my jobs efficiently and I expanded my knowledge on food safety by carrying out regular risk assessments.
During the start of the pandemic, I dealt with with customers' personal requests, building personal rapports. I also accumulated sales through making sure that the stock was replenished and informing customers with product knowledge.
I volunteered weekly at this residential home where I would care for the mental wellbeing of residents suffering from dementia through social interaction by co-organising weekly board game sessions.
During my time as a volunteer at Barnardo's, I made sure the store was pleasing to the eye by choosing which stock would be appealing to the customers and replenishing that in the store. I also became familiar with operating tills, cross selling across the store and dealing with customers requests.
