During this time, I’ve taken on a variety of responsibilities, including serving customers, assisting with delivery shifts and stock management, participating in late-night stock takes, recording stock data, and handling cash during administrative tasks. These experiences have helped me develop strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills. During my time at Monsoon, I gained my most valuable experience in the retail industry, as this was my first ever paid job. I learned essential skills such as how to engage with customers, create a welcoming shopping experience, and effectively promote products to drive sales. I was primarily based in a Monsoon concession store within Debenhams, but I also had the opportunity to work in the main store, giving me a broader understanding of different retail environments. Unfortunately, following the impact of COVID-19, all Debenhams stores closed, resulting in the closure of the concession stores as well. Despite this, the skills and knowledge I gained during my time at Monsoon have provided me with a strong understanding of customer service, sales techniques, and the retail industry as a whole.
During my work experience, I had the opportunity to take on the role of a teaching assistant, where I was responsible for supervising small groups of children from Years 1 to 6. My duties included organizing paperwork, assisting with PowerPoint presentations for class assemblies, and encouraging students to stay engaged with their classwork. From the early stages of this experience, I realized how much I genuinely enjoy helping others, particularly those who may need extra support. I provided one-on-one assistance to students who required additional help, which significantly boosted their confidence and enhanced their learning experience. This role not only strengthened my communication and organizational skills but also deepened my passion for supporting others in their growth and development.
