In 2020 I had the opportunity to run a workshop at a youth centre based in Wandsworth. I had to rigorously plan this as it went on after the first lockdown was over, so it was important to me to ensure that the working environment was set up safe using the government guidelines. I ensured I had all the correct PPE and a risk assessment to hand. The children made the specific looks such as fresh scratches, bruises, vampire bites, cut fingers and open wounds.
I really enjoyed being able to practise different makeup looks and learn the technical skills behind creating specific looks. I really enjoyed the experience as I gained much knowledge on the technical side of make up for example blending and mixing colours when doing an eyeshadow look. I had a lot of freedom with my clients to adapt to a makeup style they wanted. This encouraged me to be versatile and try new things. I was also able to run and plan live events on the counter to promote new launches or teach a specific technique
I was given the opportunity to teach several special effects makeup workshops at summer pick and mix which is borough funded project by the council to offer new and exciting opportunities for children and teenagers. In the workshops I taught them how to make; cuts, bruises, open wounds and a tropophobia makeup look. I was showing them how to create makeup looks as seen on film and TV. I was working there over the summer and Halloween of 2019 and 2020 of the summer this year.
I wanted to get more experience and learn more about applying beauty makeup and the treatments which are available. Whilst working at Benefit I went on many training courses to learn how to, wax and tint eyebrows, lash tinting, facial waxes, beauty makeup and health and safety procedures in the workplace. This gave the knowledge to go about applying makeup and treatments in a safe and sanitary way and the safety procedures to do waxing and tinting correctly.
In 2028 I moved abroad to follow my passion for face painting. I went out in search of face painting companies to get myself involved and to gain experience. I decided to move out there to meet like-minded people and do what I love. I worked at various events such as zoo project, glitter box and Es paradise. The makeup company I worked for was called kinky flamingo. I would work there every weekend doing body painting and face painting for people going to the events. I also worked for zoo project and would do makeup for people at the pre parties. Whilst working it made me get better at dealing with critique and using that to progress forward.
In 2017 was given the opportunity to teach a special FX workshop at Graveney school. This is one of my hobbies and something that I am passionate about so being given that opportunity was amazing to be able to inspire young people and to do something different and for them to experience something I enjoy.
At my old job I organised the Halloween night. I was doing face painting Halloween makeup for children and other customers. It was great fun and good practise to see the different makeup looks in real life. It was a great turn out and plenty of people reacted to pictures on the pub Instagram page.
