Our client a sustainable fashion & luxury marketplace is looking for a new team member to help develop their brand partnerships and buying division. They are a recent start-up and focused on high-end women's fashion and clean beauty brands, and only with ethical credentials. They are perfectly positioned to capture the explosive growth of fashion-tech, online shopping, and more sustainability-conscious consumers. This position is for a senior fashion & luxury buyer with specific experience in women RTW, e-commerce, and buying for multi-brand retailers. It will be key to have relationships with some of the super brands, as well as more contemporary sustainable brands. The opportunity is part-time freelance initially with the possibility to move into a full-time permanent position. The team will mainly be based in Los Angeles and the ideal person will be in the US or in a time zone that works easily with the west-coast time zone (PDT).

This position requires someone quite senior who has years of experience and leadership under their belt, as well as strong connections with major fashion and luxury brands

Key Responsibilities

Brand Acquisition

  • Stay alongside the latest trends and identify new brands
  • Create brand acquisition strategy and acquire new brands in accordance with the schedule
  • Develop strong relationships with incumbent and target brands

Brand Building

  • Take major role in creating the buying message (curation) and brand positioning that represents our brand
  • Build brand acquisition schedule based on buying message
  • Create product strategy framework based on the evolving Toward customer
  • Create starting points for evolving KPI’s such as sell-through, cross-sell rate, etc. 
  • Develop and execute strategies to exponentially grow the Women’s designer RTW business and market share

Buying

  • Develop season merchandise plan and manage the seasonal purchasing budget and own the selection and strategy across product categories 
  • Select products to create a consistent buying message that aligns with our brand
  • Achieve target budgets, margins, and sell-throughs
  • Manage the buying process, including building assortments, performance, and managing inventory flow
  • Analyzing competitive pricing, product, presentation, and timing
  • Negotiate and enforce the terms and conditions with suppliers
  • Identify new business opportunities, including new brands, product trends, and marketing opportunities
  • Attend market (includes travel once Covid restrictions lift)
  • Assist other teams in the creation of content based on current trends and seasonal interests 

Cross-Functional Support

  • Support brands in their responsibility journeys when submitting framework applications, etc. 
  • Work with marketing, PR, Content, and Responsibility teams as needed
